Lessons About Teamwork

On a scale of 1 to 10, how important is it that the Leader be a person of Vision? (1=not important. 10= extremely important.)

On a scale of 1 to 10, how would you rate your ability as a Leader to cast and hold a Vision? (1=not important. 10= extremely important.)

The vast majority of the requests that I receive are from leaders looking for help with vision-casting. Today’s leaders are realizing the importance of being able to cast a vision, while also recognizing their own limitations in this area. John Maxwell, writing about vision-casting, states that a leader must see… Farther than others see. More than others see. Before others see..

Tips From Val

If you’re planning to implement major change, consider the following three E’s of change. Notice that each side of the triangle is equal, so is the value attached to each of the E’s.

  • Eliminate: Change involves letting go. Identify that which needs to be removed. Who or what will you need to say NO to in order for the change to succeed? What needs to STOP?
  • Experiment: Change also involves trying a new way of doing things or a new way of being. Who can help you look at things with fresh eyes? What creative ways are others trying?
  • Enjoy: Don’t forget to celebrate! What is one thing you are grateful for? What’s perfect about right now ?

Book Review

MADE to STICK: Why Some Ideas Survive and Others Die
By Chip Heath and Dan Heath

Are you looking for a resource to improve your communication?
Want others to remember your ideas and stories? This book is a practical guide to being a more effective communicator. Filled with exercises, checklists, insightful discoveries and other tools this book explores why some stories and ideas are remembered (Stick) and others don’t. Chip, a professor at Stanford’s Business School and Dan, a teacher and textbook publisher have thoroughly studied the topic of “stickiness”--making an idea unforgettable. Fun to read and well researched, this is a great book.
